Where have I been...

I didn't fall off the face of the earth or run away. In the past week, I've had a sick little girl, a sick computer, and a hurt back. Since Monday of this week, I've been pretty much on my back. There's nothing like a forced vacation. And, thankfully my dear husband was also on "vacation". He's held down the fort and done my lifting. As of today, I'm doing much better. I still can't sit for very long. I'm standing as I type this. But, can't stand still very long either.
So the tiered skirt pattern that I thought would be written and online by now...is still in notes. Before I can even think about writing it, I need to make sure my daughter's Easter dress gets finished. And, since I can't sit very long, both of these tasks will be a bit more time consuming than they would otherwise be. So...the tiered skirt is going to be delayed some. I really hope no one was depending on it for Easter. If so, please forgive me.
The best part of the delay is that I had a lot of thinking time...and I've got many new ideas to put into pattern. One will be my daughter's Easter dress. I'll post pictures of it when it's finished. For this one, you'll have to learn either buttons and button holes or a zipper...you'll get to choose. Although those can be scary for some, they are not impossible. And, oh, the places you'll go, after you learn it... :)

Pretty Peasant Dress...too cute, and Sooo Many Options

Well friends, I can't wait to see what you will all do with this one. There are so many variation options, I can't simply try them all. If I did, my little girl would have way too many clothes. Please share pictures with me when you get a creation finished.
The Pretty Peasant Dress is my little girl's favorite, as a shirt, too. We have yet to do a nightgown with it, but will soon. She even did her first gathering stitch this week; and almost solo. I ran the machine pedal. Some machines have a speed setting, mine does not. She was so very proud of sewing "by herself" at 5. She's one of those children who "can do anything that anyone else can do", at least that's what she thinks, lol.
I'm not sure which pattern will come up next. It will either be the Three Tiered Skirt, or the Ribbons and Bows Jumper. The skirt pattern gets tested next Saturday, when I teach it to the ladies at church. I'm having a lot of fun. I hope you are also.
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please, please email me. My hope in all of this is that you are encouraged and empowered to create clothing for/with your family and have fun doing it. Then the craft of clothing creation can go on to the next generation. And, who knows maybe one of you or your daughters will start up your own cottage sewing business. That would be wonderful.
Don't forget to send those photos my way.

Sweet and Simple Skirt...It's here!

For those who've been waiting....the Sweet and Simple Skirt Pattern is here. It's a custom fit pattern. What does that mean...you say. Well, it means that after you put your measurements into the formulas within the pattern, you will be able to draft "draw" your pattern to fit you just right. It's not as hard as it sounds. And, if it gets any bit confusing...just email me. I'll unconfuse you....;) I've gone through this skirt with two non-sewing moms and all is well, and they still like me. lol.
You will need to work the formulas before going to the fabric store....

Ribbons and Bows Jumper: I'm so excited about this one

This little dress is so much fun. It has so many possibilities, also...ribbon, trim, ruffles, banded hemline. And the color combinations of fabric and trims are endless. It can be worn as a sundress or jumper, or even made shorter for a cute little top. The fabric in this version is from a fabric designer I just found....Jennifer Paganelli. You can find her, too, at http://www.sisboom.com/ She designs for Free Spirit Fabrics. You won't find her fabrics at a chain store. You can find them at a quilt shop or online. They cost a bit more than chain store fabrics, but this time, I will say it's worth a few extra bucks. This piece of fabric was in the mail for a couple of days and had very few wrinkles in it when it arrived. And, those wrinkles were gone within a few minutes of unpacking. They are 100% cotton and amazing, not to mention the prints. Oh well, maybe this is just me finally finding out the difference between designer fabrics and "not". I had the pleasure of speaking with Jennifer this week. She's a great lady. When you visit Jennifer's site, make sure you tell her I sent you ;). I told her I'd be spreading the word.
You will see this design up within a couple of weeks.
And....in a day or two the A-line skirt will be posted and ready for purchase.
Happy Sewing!!!

Introducing SquigglyTwigs Designs

A few weeks ago an idea for a pattern design company came to life. Inspired by my twiggy shaped little girl, who no longer fits into store bought clothing, who also has curly hair and a squiggly personality, SquigglyTwigs Design was born.
I had been making my children's clothing for special occasions and holidays for a while now, oh and lots of doll clothes. I've been sewing for decades rarely following a pattern, often making up my own pieces. Recently friends and family have been asking me, how did you do that, can I have a copy of that pattern in size ???. Will you teach me to make that? Or, most often, I could never make something like that.
Well yes, yes, yes, and yes you can make that. All of the clothing that I make can be made by anyone else. The only thing different about my clothing patterns is that they are all easy and quick. I need to start and finish in a naptime or two, just like you.
Soon you will be able to purchase our patterns from this blog, all will be quite affordable and include a wide range of sizes, color photos, pattern pieces, and complete directions.
Have a blessed day.
