Tuesday's Tute: Make Your Own Hair Ribbons

This one is so easy and useful, I don't know why I didn't think of posting it until now... We really love to make this to match an outfit. Sometimes we make two of differing widths and use them together.
Materials:
Fabric
Sewing Machine and supplies

Directions:
1.. Cut a strip of fabric. 2 x + 1/2" the finished width you want by the length you want. We've used 1 1/2" or 2" wide by about 15" long. This can be varied to any width and length you'd like. We tie ours in a simple knot, instead of a bow. We've used cotton wovens and they come out a little stiff for a bow. However, a wide width would make a large, but softer bow.
***If you have a bias tape maker and want a ribbon that size...use it for the folding/pressing steps.***

2. Lay strip on ironing board wrong side facing up. Using your pressing board, press each, raw, long side in 1/4".

3. Fold in half, with pressed edges inside, press.

4. Tuck short edges inside and press. Now all raw edges are hidden inside your strip.
5. Sew with presser foot along the very edge of all 4 edges.

Your hair ribbon is complete. Have fun creating matching ribbons for the outfits. Make a tied belt by starting with a wider strip.

Extra: If you use knit you needn't sew a thing just cut your strip to the width and length you'd like. It won't fray apart.

Happy Sewing!
Debbie
