New Sewing Inspiration and...coat update

This week a friend introduced me to a free online sewing magazine. It's a magazine with children's clothing. Only two issues have been produced thus far, but the photos are incredibly inspiring. They do have kits for sale for the items pictured in the magazine, if you want to do so.
Why to I love this so? Well, I'm always looking for ways to use fabrics, colors, and pattern pieces together to create a new and exciting look. I always thought a clothing item needed to be made out of one type of fabric, well at least mostly. I'm learning differently. It's so exciting to see cordory used to trim out a skirt, or shirt, or twill and quilters cotton used together. My in this magazine they use silk in places. Who ever thought of putting silk on a child's garment...not me. I've also learned that silk is machine washable. Prewashing before sewing is the key here. Silk ready to wear garment fabrics are not prewashed, therefore, washing can cause all sorts of havoc with the completed garment.
So are you ready to get inspired, too? Check it out and subscribe...remember it's free...here. SewWow Spring 2009 and SewWow Fall 2009 and their parent company Waechter's Fine Fabrics in Ashville, NC.
Now, for the coat update...
All three layers are complete and pinned together. Praise the Lord they all match up. I'm waiting for Curly to wake from nap and try it on. Once it passes the fit test, we'll be putting it together and adding our finishing touches. I'm so excited. It wasn't as hard as I thought...well it must have been all of you praying for me. Watching her face light up each time she trys on part is priceless. I'm so glad I stepped out and tried this. But, I know, I'm not done yet.... BTW, she's even helping with some. So we'll be able to say, "We made her coat." That makes it even better.
